You may have been told from an early age that Jesus was a prophet, but not a "son of god." We recognize that family and culture have a profound impact on religious beliefs. If you are of the Muslim faith, Click Here to learn why Jesus is the Messiah, as foretold in The Bible.Â
For others who may have faith in other gods, here are reasons to believe in Jesus.
âFor God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of Godâs one and only Sonâ (John 3:16-18).
When Jesus said, âI and the Father are oneâ (John 10:30), Jesus truly was claiming equality with God.
In John 8:58 Jesus claims pre-existence, an attribute of God: ââVery truly I tell you,â Jesus answered, âbefore Abraham was born, I am!ââ In response to this statement, the Jews again took up stones to stone Jesus (John 8:59). In claiming pre-existence, Jesus applied a name for God to HimselfâI AM (see Exodus 3:14).
God the Father bears witness of Jesusâ identity as well: âBut about the Son he says, âYour throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.ââ (Hebrews 1:8; cf. Psalm 45:6). Old Testament prophecies such as Isaiah 9:6 announce the deity of Christ: âFor to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.âÂ
Jesus had to be both God and man. As God, Jesus could satisfy Godâs wrath. As a man, Jesus had the capability of dying. As the God-man, Jesus is the perfect Mediator between heaven and earth (1 Timothy 2:5). Salvation is available only through faith in Jesus Christ. As He proclaimed, âI am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.â (John 14:6).
